	Shilo

	We adopted Shilo in January of 2007.  We knew she had epilepsy, but no one had seen any seizures.  We had never had a dog that had seizures,so we talked to many people who had more experience with dogs with seizures before we adopted her and thought this was something we could handle.  Well, she ended up having grand mal seizures....and they wouldn't stop at one, they would keep coming in clusters. So every time she has had a seizure she has had to go to the emergency vet to stop them.  This was pretty traumatic for us.  Plus she had many anxiety and behavior issues.  Someone must have kept her outside all the time as she paced and paced in the house.  We almost had to give her back to the rescue and we really want to thank Carl at Free Spirit for bearing with our emails and calls in desperation!  We really didn't know what to do.  But with some training advice, patience, persistence and LOTS of love Shilo is doing very well.  She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known and truly wants to please, just has a lot of anxiety.  We haven't left her alone yet as we are afraid she might have a seizure, but as she is more comfortable we may try to leave her alone for a short period of time.  She is very good on a leash, she LOVES stuffed dog toys, she loves to sleep on the couch or one of her soft dog beds and she loves to meet people and other dogs.  We take her for 2-3 walks a day and we have great bike trails near our house where a lot of people walk their dogs, so she gets to meet lots of other dogs and is always perfect with them. When we first adopted her she was a bit sensitive about anyone touching her back end or her feet, but I decided right away to work on that and now she loves to have her butt scratched and is very good about standing still to have her paws wiped off after a walk in the wet grass.  Even though it was a very difficult time at first, we are truly grateful to Free Spirit for saving this lovely girl (she gets compliments on our walks all the time!) and we will provide her with the best life possible while she is here.
