| Hi, My name is Dottie Burford. I adopted Nikka (now Maggie) about a little over 3 years ago. I adotped her after my first husky was hit by a car and killed. Karen was so understanding about my situation. I wasn't sure about Nikka at first. The transition period was not smooth. She and my Rottweiler jockeyed for dominance for the first month or so. But now they are sisters and can't be without one another. I wanted to adopt a third husky at the time, so many needed homes, but with the tension it seems a bad idea. I have always regretted not adopting the third dog, Echo. I am so sorry about the inconvience at the time. Maggie still sleeps with me every night. I can't tell you how grateful I am to you for allowing me to adopt her. She is my angel and my comfort. When I hug her I think of all the good work you do and the lives you bless. You are an angel as well. Please know that I give her all the love in my heart every day. I exercise her and play with her and spoil her shamelessly. She is a happy girl. I know because she smiles at me all the time. Also, I wanted to let Karen and the rest of you know that last weekend Maggie was tested and passed her test to be a licensed therapy dog. She goes with me to the nursing home on weekends to see my mom and it takes me at least 20 minutes to go to an from her room because so many people stop me to pet Maggie. I'm overwhelmed at the joy she brings to the residents there. Maggie was at Free-Spirit for 2 years before I adopted her. Karen never gave up on her. I wanted Karen to know that the kindness she showed to Maggie is being passed on. Thank you again. Dottie | ||
