Hi, my name is Kota or Dakota as the Rescue called me. I have been at my new home for 2 months now. At first it was a little different because I stay outside all the time. I cried a little the first two nights, but my new sister-Keita-calmed me down by telling me that mom would be out in the morning again. She also told me the Coyotes we heard howling were our lullaby music. After about 5-10 minutes, I settled down and went to sleep and guess what, mom was there in the morning and every morning since. I like my new sister. Although she is older than me by a year, she is about 10 pounds smaller than I am, but she has a lot of "piss &
vinegar" as mom says. All I know is she puts up quite a fight for a little gal. Mom & Dad are great too. The first week I was with them, I cut the pad on my foot. It got infected and swollen, so on a Saturday night, mom met the vet at the clinic & got me some antibiotics. Besides getting "special" treats with the medicine in, Mom & Dad soaked my foot in a bucket of warm water & epsom salts, then put salve on it & covered it with a sock, so I would not lick off the salve. My foot is back to normal now. Mom says I was a good dog because I did not even try to chew the sock off. Keita & I have a really nice play area. When I first got there, I did not like it & tried to chew through the wire on the gate. Mom scolded me & put me in my kennel. I learned real fast to stop chewing on the gate. Now I run around in it with Keita & roll the new ball mom got me. Keita got her own ball too, so we do not fight over
just one. We live in the country & mom takes us on lots of long walks in the fields. We see deer, squirrels, rabbits, racoons, & mice. Keita & I slide down the snow covered hills because we are on 25' leashes. It is fun!! We even get to dig in the fields. Sometimes Keita & I fight over a mouse that we have found. Then mom scolds us & tells us we have to share. We are getting better at sharing. Mom has taught me to sit & shake hands (paw). Now we are working on stay. That one is kinda hard for me as I am still a puppy. I really like it here. I even like Keita, as far as sisters go. This is my third home, but mom says I am a keeper. I guess that means I am going to stay. Dad does not spend a lot of time with us, but he stops in every night when he gets home with a treat and sits with us for a little while. He never scolds us. Mom says he spoils us. I do not care as long as he brings treats, like pieces of hamburger,
cookies, and/or liver. Note from Mom: Thank you Free Spirit for bringing us together with Dakota. He is such a joy. We love him more than words can say & he is a keeper!! Marla & Ronnie T.
