Perro is a beautiful, larger red husky that has been at the rescue since 2018 and is looking for a new home. He is a high energy and vocal dog that communicates to you with his unique voice and stunning blue eyes. He loves long walks and one of his favorite activities is rolling around in the grass or playing fetch. Perro knows all his commands and can be very affectionate in a relaxed setting, he responds well to positive verbal reinforcement and with treats. He does not respond well to negative reinforcement, loud voice commands, or physically pushing him down or away.

Perro does have a noted bite history from his previous home when placed in stressful situations with kids, but has not shown a repeat of that behavior with current volunteers he has a relationship with, so improvement has been witnessed. We feel he would be a wonderful addition to a relaxed, low stress home environment without cats or children, a large fenced in yard and active owner, however another dog might be possible. He does have moments of higher anxiety from a lack of attention and/or exercise at times and needs work on how to not react negatively to situations that cause him anxiety. The key with Perro is consistency in routine and his environment along with training which he has not had before. With the right person willing to work with him and provide what he needs, we feel he would be a wonderful addition to a home.

This dog requires an adopter to come out to the rescue three times in order to build up trust and form a bond with this dog before going home. Please talk to your adoption coordinator regarding the behaviors we have been working with this particular dog and the training techniques we have seen improvement with. We will also need the name and number of the trainer you plan on using before they will go home.
